Bicycle accident in Massachusetts still has unanswered questions

A bicycle accident can cause devastating injuries and even death. A Massachusetts resident who was involved in a bicycle accident over the summer can probably attest to the fact that accident injuries can be long-term and life-changing. A recent article questions why the accident has been kept so low-key and why more information isn't being released.

The accident involved a police officer, which is why some are saying it has been kept so quiet. The officer was on duty at the time of the accident. According to reports, there was notable damage to the front end and passenger side of the cruiser. The 63-year-old cyclist was sitting on a curb with his bicycle a notable distance from him.

The cyclist received treatable injuries but did require medical attention, and the medical treatment for his injuries could have been costly. The police department maintains that they are not required to release the officer's name under the circumstances. While this may be true, the victim or his family may wish to take civil action against the officer or possibly the police department. Understanding the applicable laws may be the best way to determine appropriate action in this situation.

Massachusetts residents who feel they have been a victim in a bicycle accident may wish to pursue their rights under the state law. For those who have lost a loved one, they may wish to seek monetary compensation for accident-related costs such as final medical expenses or burial expenses. Financial strain on a family can make an already difficult time that much harder.
