Workplace accidents can impact Massachusetts workers

Workplace accidents can change the lives of many in an instant. When a death occurs, friends, family and the community can mourn the loss of a loved one. Workplace accidents often draw attention in different media outlets. Massachusetts residents may have heard of a recent accident that claimed the life of one man.

The deadly explosion happened at an electronics plant around noon as the result of a pyrophoric chemical reacting with the air. The 51-year-old man was transported via medical helicopter for treatment of his burns, but later died as a result of the injuries he sustained in the accident. Since the investigation is still continuing, it was yet to be known if the accident was caused by a malfunction.

Sadly as the investigation continues, the man's family is left to not only mourn the loss of their loved one but they are also possibly dealing with a financial loss. The man could have been the sole provider for his family which could cause a long term financial strain on the family. Until the investigation is complete, the family may not have access to the man's death benefits. Depending on the results, the family may be entitled to file a civil suit against the company.

Unfortunately, workplace accidents can result in serious injury or death. Any Massachusetts worker or loved one that has been involved in an accident may want to research their rights under the applicable laws. Since all accidents occur under different circumstances, it can be important for an individual to understand what they are entitled to and the best course of action conducive to receiving monetary compensation.
