Massachusetts teen suffers brain injury during football game

Sustaining a brain injury can occur in many ways. Massachusetts residents may have heard of a young man that suffered a brain injury during a high school football game. While the young man is recovering, he is an example of how devastating an injury such as this can be to loved ones as well as a community.

The injury occurred following a tackle during the game. Although he was hurt, he did not leave the game and was on the field until he collapsed. As a result, the young man ultimately had to have part of his skull removed to ease swelling on his brain. He has returned home, but still needs medical attention including outpatient therapy.

The young man's brain injury was listed as serious, but with the proper medical attention doctors are hopeful he was fully recover. Even so, the medical care and use of facilities he will need in order to achieve a full recovery can be financially draining for his family. This poses the question if negligence could have been a factor. While most people are aware of the dangers of most sports, coaches and staff are also responsible for acting in the best interest of the players. It is unknown if the proper procedures were followed in this case, but may be worth the families time to determine if the proper action was indeed taken.

Any Massachusetts resident that believes they or a loved one have suffered a brain injury as the result of negligence may want to research the laws applicable to their specific situation. Caring for a loved one with such an injury can be emotionally and financially draining. When the accident is the result of carelessness, monetary compensation could be deemed appropriate. If so, a person can be hopeful a financial burden will be lifted and they can focus on the victim's recovery.
