Massachusetts accident could have caused brain injury

As some innocent victims know, an auto accident can all-too-often cause a serious brain injury. While an injury of any type can be emotionally and physically devastating, a brain injury can result in a person needing extended care or in the worst cases, death. A man that caused a serious accident was recently in court for an accident where he is accused of striking and killing a Massachusetts pedestrian.

As police were attempting to pull the man over, he refused to do so and continued on at which time he hit the man at a bus stop, killing him. He continued after that until he ran into an SUV that had four family members traveling in it. All four had to be transported to a local hospital, two of which were children. One of the family members was reported to have potential life-threatening injuries. A total of seven vehicles were damaged during the police pursuit.

The man is now facing a multitude of charges and has a long history of traffic offenses. He had already had his license suspended previously and it was suspended again after the accident because he refused to take a breathalyzer. While the trial continues, the family may want to look into their right to file a civil suit against the driver. Although the report didn't specifically mention a brain injury to the man, in such a tragic accident, a severe brain injury can easily occur. The family may be entitled to compensation for any final medical bills as well as burial expenses they incurred as a result of the accident.

Any Massachusetts resident that has received a brain injury they believe to be caused by the negligence of another person may want to look into their rights under the applicable laws. If the injury is severe, the family of the victim may want to research the best way to proceed with any action that can be taken. Long-term health care or rehabilitation may be needed after such an event. With the proper understanding of their rights, a person can be more hopeful they will receive a fair settlement.
