Massachusetts woman loses life in a bicycle accident

A bicycle accident can cause serious injuries and even death. Most often people think about a car being involved, but there are other types of negligence that can cause and accident as well. Recently, a Massachusetts woman died from a bicycle accident that happened on a local bridge.

The woman that died crashed when her bicycle tires became jammed in a gap between two grates. The bridge's deck had recently been repaired. When the jam occurred, she flipped over the handlebars on her bicycle and did significant damage to her face that included losing teeth and having her jaw wired shut once she was at the hospital. She was taken via helicopter. She was placed in a medically induced coma and was at first listed in serious condition, but an unknown complication later took her life.

Work was done to the bridge following this woman's accidents including new signage as well as alterations to the grates. Even though the city has taken steps to prevent a future accident such as this one, that doesn't necessarily mean they aren't liable for the tragic loss of this woman's life. The family she left behind, which included a husband and two children, may want to consider filing a civil suit. It can be hard to think about money during such a tragic time, but the family is no doubt facing a mound of medical expenses as well as burial expenses. By taking quick action, the family can hope to recover their monetary losses in a timely manner.

Any Massachusetts rider that has been injured in a bicycle accident could benefit from knowing their rights under the state law. Whether it happened as a result of the negligence of a town or a person, taking a proactive approach can prove beneficial. The pain and suffering is a lot to endure, but the added financial stress can be too much for a person to handle. When a victim has an understanding of the law, they can be hopeful they will receive a positive outcome.
