Construction accidents can be traumatic to Massachusetts workers

Massachusetts construction accidents can prove to be deadly, especially in cases where proper safety procedures are not followed. One person has died and two others have been injured following a recent incident involving modular trailers. Construction accidents are unfortunately common, even with multiple regulations governing safety in place.

Three workers became trapped when two temporary modular trailers overturned. One worker was able to escape and only received minor injuries. The second worker was freed by emergency responders after they used a crane to lift the trailers. The third worker wasn't as fortunate and died at the scene as a result of injuries sustained from the accident.

It was not known at the time what caused the large trailers to overturn. They were described as being 50 feet in length and 10 feet wide. They were being used as temporary offices as the adjoining building underwent a remodel. There were a number of emergency personnel on scene and an investigation into all contributing factors is still ongoing. As is typical with this type of accident, OSHA is also investigating.

As is illustrated by this tragedy, construction accidents often result in serious injury or death and can leave families devastated. Upon completion of the investigation, the family of the deceased may very well be entitled to file for workers' compensation death benefits. When workers are injured or killed on the job, the company could be required to pay workers' compensation benefits to any injured workers as well as death benefits to the family of the deceased. Massachusetts workers facing a similar situation might be best served to familiarize themselves with the laws to understand their rights and how to proceed should they need to file a claim for workers' compensation.
