Construction accidents in Massachusetts can be deadly

It is commonly known that Massachusetts construction sites can pose threats to the life and limb of workers. A recent out-of-state story demonstrates how residential work site construction accidents can be dangerous. According to reports, an out-of-state worker was performing construction duties on a home being built when he fell.

At least one other construction worker was present at the time of the fall. It is reported that the worker, a 35-year-old man, fell around 12 feet to the ground and sustained fatal head trauma. Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene, and an autopsy has been ordered, according to reports.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is working alongside the state medical examiner's office to investigate this accident. No additional details of the investigation have been released. Part of this investigation may be determining what factors contributed to this worker's fall and subsequent fatal injuries, including whether any parties were negligent leading to the accident.

The family members of the deceased worker must now work toward putting their lives back together without their loved one. Construction accidents are far too common in Massachusetts and elsewhere. Thankfully, many families are able to seek a bit of respite from at least the financial implications of such an accident by utilizing our state's workers' compensation laws. When the family of a victim is able to successfully obtain workers' compensation death benefits, they may receive much needed compensation for the lost wages of their loved one, which can help them focus on repairing their family and future.
