Massachusetts man dies in bicycle accident with SUV

One of the responsibilities of Massachusetts drivers is being mindful of others on the roadway. This includes bicyclists, who are more prone to injury should an accident occur. One such bicycle accident near a Massachusetts university provides an example of just how vulnerable bicyclists can be, and why it is important for vehicle drivers to be aware.

Police are investigating the accident, which happened near Westfield State University. Unfortunately, the accident resulted in the death of the bicyclist involved. The accident occurred on Western Avenue when the bicyclist was struck by an SUV. Police say that the bicycle and the vehicle were both traveling in the same direction at the time of the collision.

The bicyclist was transported to a local hospital, but was pronounced dead when he arrived. The driver of the SUV, a 32-year-old man, has not been cited or charged in connection to the accident, though authorities note that the investigation is ongoing. Authorities have not provided any details about why they believe that the accident happened.

As the investigation into this bicycle accident moves forward, the family of the bicyclist may take a keen interest in the conclusion. If negligence is found to be a factor in the accident, the family may be successful in seeking damages, should they choose to pursue a wrongful death claim under the personal injury laws of Massachusetts. There is no compensation for the pain that the loss of a loved one causes; however, a successfully litigated wrongful death claim could provide the victim\'s family with much needed financial assistance as they strive to recover from their tragic ordeal.
