The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recently responded to an accident at a Massachusetts construction job site that injured two people. The job site accident happened in an area of roadway where water and sewer lines were being installed. An 18-year-old woman was reportedly driving near the construction when she was waved around the site.
As the woman proceeded through the site, she struck one worker, a 61-year-old man. The collision threw the man into a trench nearly six feet deep. Another worker who was trying to warn his coworkers was also struck as he attempted to move out of the driver's way. This worker, a 26-year-old man, also sustained injuries.
According to police, both men were transported to a local clinic for treatment of their injuries. The exact nature and extent of the injuries sustained was not reported, though police state that they are non-life threatening. Police believe that speeding and solar glare were both factors in this incident. The young driver is facing speeding charges.
Reports appear to indicate that the two men involved in this job site accident were injured in the course of performing their work. Because this is the case, they may be eligible for workers' compensation benefits to cover lost wages and medical expenses incurred due to this accident. Massachusetts workers' compensation laws are designed to help injured workers focus on making a complete recovery without worrying over their financial status. Those considering making a claim would likely benefit from gaining a full understanding of the relevant laws and procedures involved to ensure that all applicable benefits are received.
