Second local bicycle accident in Massachusetts shakes BU campus

A second fatality has occurred involving a cyclist being struck near Boston University in Massachusetts. Officials have begun to reevaluate the infrastructure in an effort to reduce bicycle accident injuries and fatalities in this area; one that is teeming with cyclists and pedestrians traveling to and from school. Unfortunately for these two families that have lost members this fall, it is too late to save their loved ones.

The 23-year-old photojournalism student collided with a 16-wheeler tractor trailer near the campus. Family and friends are devastated by this loss, and support centers have been opened to offer counseling for anyone needing assistance. City Hall was scheduled to meet later that same day to discuss ways of improving the safety of cyclists and pedestrians.

The driver of the tractor trailer has not been charged in the accident at this time. The investigation is continuing and there is not yet any official word on whether charges will be filed in the near future. The parents of this young man may decide to file civil charges against the driver for wrongful death, separate from any formal charges the district attorney files.

There is an obvious concern for the safety of the residents in this Boston neighborhood around the university campus, and officials hope to have a resolution soon in the wake of these tragic bicycle accident fatalities. Massachusetts residents who have lost loved ones in a similar manner need to be aware of their rights in a time like this and follow through with seeking compensation for their loss at the possible negligent hands of another. As such an investigation continues, it may benefit the family to have an attorney involved to gather information and plan accordingly.
