Massachusetts motorcycle accidents cause life-changing injuries

A recent government report that tries to track spending based upon accidents and injuries indicates that motorcycle accidents alone cost $16 billion during 2010. This estimate does not include prolonged spending amounts due to life-changing injuries that require special medical attention. Reports indicate that motorcycle accidents result in 30 times more deaths than typical vehicle accidents. Massachusetts riders should be aware of these stats and the best practices to avoid becoming part of that statistic.

During 2010, there were approximately 82,000 injuries and over 4500 fatalities directly related to motorcycle accidents. These only account for accidents reported, the actual number could be even higher. The cost described in the report is related to insurance payouts, settlement amounts and medical costs and compensation.

Motorcycle accidents can have very long lasting effects if the persons involved become disabled, have to change lifestyle such as living arrangements or career. One of the best ways to protect against injury in the event of an accident is to wear a helmet. Statistically, helmets reduce the chances of being injured by almost 40 percent.

When riding a motorcycle, the driver and passenger are at a higher risk of injury due to the open air luxury that motorcyclists enjoy so much. This freedom, however, leaves the riders open to life-changing injuries if an unexpected accident occurs. When injured by another person, whether due to negligence on their part or some sort of impairment, then the first recommended action is of course medical attention. Next would be to obtain representation familiar with personal injury motorcycle laws in Massachusetts.
