Massachusetts man may have brain injury after recent accident

A 19-year-old Massachusetts man now faces criminal charges following an accident which injured several people. He is charged with OUI, speeding, lane violations and operating an uninsured and unregistered motor vehicle. All four occupants of the vehicle sustained injuries in the crash. One man suffered head trauma and possible brain injury as well as multiple compound fractures. The man was trapped in the rear driver-side passenger seat of the vehicle and had to be extracted from the car by emergency responders. He was reported in serious condition by medical professionals on the scene.

When Police and emergency responders arrived on the scene, three people had already exited the vehicle. The trapped victim will likely face a lengthy recovery time for his injuries, and the head trauma in particular could have lasting effects. Even though the injuries were described as non life-threatening, any serious injury can affect one's quality of life in varying degrees.

Three of the occupants, including the driver, were taken to Milford Regional Medical Center for treatment. The passenger most severely injured was airlifted to UMass Memorial Medical Center.

As the driver faces criminal charges in the court system, he may also be facing civil lawsuits as well. The victims of his negligent driving could seek compensation under Massachusetts state laws, which protect those injured by the actions of another. The man who sustained head trauma may face years of recovery if he does indeed suffer a brain injury, and only time will tell the full extent of the damage done. He and his family could be burdened by extremely high medical bills as well as time lost from work, not to mention the pain and suffering that the victim has experienced.
