Massachusetts off-duty transit officer in motorcycle accident

A man has been charged with failure to yield to oncoming traffic after being struck by a motorcyclist recently. Massachusetts police reports show that the driver of an SUV was attempting to turn left across oncoming lanes of traffic, when the motorcycle accident occurred. The driver of the motorcycle was thrown to the ground and appears to have been knocked unconscious.

The SUV driver claims that there were no cars approaching after he stopped at the intersection. After entering the opposite lanes he claims that he heard the motorcycle seconds before the impact. There was a small child in a car seat at the area of impact, and it was reported that he will be seen by medical personnel to be sure there were no injuries inside the vehicle.

The rider was a 26-year-old off-duty transit officer. One other driver that stopped after coming upon the scene of the motorcycle accident was a nurse. She said it was very scary to come upon an actual accident, even after seeing so many traumas in her profession. She said the rider was laying face down in the road unconscious.

Preliminary reports indicate that this motorcycle accident may have been caused by the negligence of the driver failing to yield. Due to the high number of motorcycles present on Massachusetts roads, as the weather cools off and gas prices remain high, it is imperative that all drivers be alert. Motorcycle drivers are more susceptible to injuries when another vehicle is involved simply due to the size difference. This biker was listed in stable condition at Boston Medical Center, and hopefully will make a full recovery. It remains to be seen if a personal injury claim for monetary damages will be filed by the victim.
