8-year-old Massachusetts boy on bike injured in a crash with car

Unfortunately, children can become victims of accidents just as easily and often as adults. Whether injured in a crash while riding in a vehicle, riding a bike or walking, or on a bicycle, the damages done to a child physically and emotionally can vary greatly from that sustained by an adult. Not only can the injuries differ but understanding the accident as a whole may require a different approach. One Massachusetts child was injured on his bicycle recently and suffered injuries to his head.

The child was involved in a crash while riding his bicycle when he collided with a vehicle operated by a woman. Incomplete police reports state that the roads were wet at the time, which may have been a factor in the collision. Reportedly, no criminal charges or moving violations were filed against the driver.

The boy's mother was able to ride with the child to the hospital for evaluation for his head injuries. Medical personnel took every precaution in restraining the child during transport to Beverly Hospital to make certain his neck and spine were supported. He reportedly had swelling on his head, though there was no further information disclosed on his updated medical condition.

Even though it appears that no criminal charges were warranted, the family may wish to assess the viability of pursuing a personal injury claim for reimbursement of any damages sustained in the collision. Massachusetts personal injury laws do allow for those injured by another to seek compensation when injured in a crash. This family may benefit from having someone experienced in child related civil suits on their side should they decide to press ahead with civil claims. In doing so, they would need to prove that the boy's injuries were caused by the negligent actions of the woman.
