Massachusetts Construction accidents devastate community

The life of a 27 year veteran police officer was claimed recently in Massachusetts. Typically when one hears about construction accidents it involves a worker falling or some type of collapse. This was not the case early one morning involving the on duty officer performing a detail at a Pontoosic Road construction site.

According to reports the officer was stuck around 7:30 a.m. by a dump truck on site. Details of the accident have not been released in this report concerning any conditions that may have contributed to the collision. The officer was taken to nearby Baystate Medical Center with life threatening injuries and spent nearly three hours before passing away.

While in the line of duty, police officers face many obstacles in their efforts to serve and protect the general public. Any number of factors could have claimed the officer's life during routine law enforcement practices. Being struck by a third party while performing detail work may have been the last thing on Officer Jose Torres' mind that morning.

Left behind are two now fatherless children, a grief-stricken wife along with friends and colleagues that will dearly miss their partner in justice. When a loved one is taken, it can leave families torn and shaken emotionally and financially. Those experiencing unexpected loss, as is commonly the case in construction accidents, may wish to seek reimbursement for damages related to medical expenses and loss of support. Nothing can correct the devastation of losing a family member; steps can be taken in Massachusetts to alleviate the pressure of resuming life and developing new stability.
