Massachusetts worker killed by falling tree

Whether you have lost someone close to you quickly or not, the thought of someone leaving this Earth without knowing ahead of time is understandably upsetting. Unfortunately, a job site accident can happen any time of day, often when we least expect it. And when it does, the results can be devastating: a wife losing her husband, a mother her son or a child their father unexpectedly while he was at work. That may have been what occurred in a recent job site accident in western Massachusetts.

A 28-year-old Massachusetts man that worked for Tyler's Tree Service, a tree cutting company based out of Southwick, was killed on the afternoon of March 29 after being fatally struck by a falling tree in the backyard of a home where he was working on Donamor Lane in East Longmeadow. He was taken to a local hospital where, regrettably, he was pronounced dead. The East Longmeadow police said that criminal charges probably won't be filed though they are investigating the incident further.

While this particular incident does seem to be a job site accident, it doesn't mean that the loved ones of the 28-year-old worker took the news any easier. While authorities work to determine exactly what occurred, the surviving family is left to grieve a life cut senselessly short. Nothing can change that, but the family may gain some sense of solace in knowing that they may be entitled to receive workers' compensation death benefits occasioned by their loss. As they cope with their personal tragedy, they may wish to investigate their right to claim these benefits and follow the appropriate procedures to ensure that they receive all payments that they deserve.
